Combining Discounty Campaigns with Other Discounts from Shopify or Third-Party Apps

In this article, we’ll explain what happens when you run a campaign in Discounty alongside discounts in Shopify or other third-party apps.

Updated yesterday

In this article, we’ll explain what happens when you run an active campaign in Discounty alongside discounts in Shopify or other third-party discount/bundle apps. Understanding how these discounts interact can help you maximize your promotional strategies and avoid unintended stacking of offers.

Discounty manages the creation of discounts within our app, while Shopify handles how these discounts are applied and combined with other available offers on the platform. This distinction is key to understanding how different discounts will interact.

"Price Rule" Campaigns (formerly named "General Discount"):

In the Price Rule (formerly named General Discount campaigns), Discounty adjusts the compare-at price and the actual price of your products. As a result, these discounts will work alongside with other Shopify discounts, such as manual codes or automatic discounts. For example, if a promotional Price Rule reduces a product's price by 20% and a customer uses a 10% discount code, the code will be applied on the already reduced price (not the original price).

If you'd like to prevent the combination of Discounty Price Rule campaigns with other Shopify native discounts, there are workarounds available for some specific scenarios. One approach is creating a smart collection containing products without a 'compare-at price' and then tailoring discount codes to this collection. Check out this article for detailed steps.

Discounty Minimum Quantity/Volume and Minimum Value Campaigns

For Minimum Quantity/Volume and Minimum Value campaigns, Discounty uses Shopify’s function-based automatic product discounts.

For installations after 11 May, 2025, these discount campaigns are set to be combined with other Product discounts, Shipping discounts, and Order discounts.

For installations before this date, these discount campaigns are set to be combined with other Product discounts and Shipping discounts. If you'd like to set them to be combined with Order discounts as well, contact our support team.

Discounty Multi-class discount code

Discounty’s Multi-class discount code are function-based Order discounts and Shipping discounts. You can set each multi-class discount code campaign to be combined with what other discount types directly in the campaign creation form while configuring the campaign.

Discounty Shipping discount

Discounty’s shipping discount are function-based Shipping discounts. You can combine Discounty shipping discounts with both Shopify native product and order discounts in the same order.

Examples:

  • Product Discounts + Free Shipping:

    • Example: 20offPants + 10offShirts + FreeShip – You can apply both product and shipping discounts to the same order.

  • Order Discounts + Free Shipping:

    • Example: Welcome10 + FreeShip – You can combine order discounts with a free shipping offer.

However, multiple shipping discounts cannot be applied to the same order. For example, 5offShipping + 10offShipping is not allowed.

Discounty Buy X Get Y (BXGY) Campaigns

Discounty’s Buy X Get Y (BXGY) campaigns are function-based product discounts designed to work seamlessly with Shopify’s native discount system and many third-party apps.

Within each campaign’s setup, you can configure combination settings to control whether the BXGY reward should stack with other product, order, or shipping discounts.

How Discounts Interact

If you enable combination in the campaign settings, here’s how Discounty handles discount logic:

  • Product X (the item being purchased):

Any existing Shopify or app-based discounts (e.g., 10% off) will still apply.

This is different from Shopify’s native Buy X Get Y, which does not allow combining a separate discount on X products. In Discounty, BXGY campaigns do not block existing product discounts on X.

  • Product Y (the reward):

Discounty automatically applies the better discount - either the BXGY reward or any other existing discount on the reward product.

Example

Let’s say:

  • All products in your store have a 10% automatic discount.

  • You create a BXGY campaign called “Seasonal Sale” that offers 50% off on selected reward items (Y).

Result:

  • Product X will still receive the 10% discount.

  • Product Y will receive the 50% BXGY reward discount, because it provides a greater benefit.

Important Notes

  • You can assign multiple BXGY campaigns to the same product (X), but currently there is no priority setting, so if multiple campaigns apply, overlapping rewards may be triggered. A priority feature is planned for a future release.

  • BXGY campaigns are implemented as Shopify automatic discounts. Since Shopify limits stores to 25 active automatic discounts, keep this in mind when creating multiple campaigns.

  • Reward logic is evaluated per product. Discounty always applies the better discount, ensuring your customers get the best available offer.
