How do I use the Shipping Progress Bar widget to offer free shipping?

Updated yesterday

Shipping Progress Bar

The Shipping Progress Bar motivates customers to add more to their cart by showing how close they are to unlocking free or discounted shipping.
It’s a simple way to increase average order value (AOV) and make your store feel more rewarding.

How it works

The widget displays a progress bar on your Product Page or Cart Page that updates as customers add products to their cart.
When the customer reaches your defined shipping discount threshold (for example, “Free shipping over $100”), the message and progress bar update automatically.

Example:

  • Initial message: “Spend $100 to unlock free shipping 🚚”

  • In progress: “You’re $25 away from free shipping!”

  • Threshold reached: “You’ve unlocked free shipping 🎉”

How to set up the Shipping Progress Bar widget

Step 1: Open the Shipping Progress Bar settings

  1. In your Discounty dashboard, go to Customization.

  2. Select Shipping Progress Bar.

  3. The settings panel will open with all customization options.

Step 2: Choose where to show the progress bar

  1. Under Display progress bar in, toggle where you want the bar to appear:

    • Product page

    • Cart page

  2. You can enable one or both, depending on where you want customers to see their shipping progress.

Step 3: Customize your progress messages

There are three message types you can edit to match your store’s tone:

Message type

When it appears

Example

Initial message

Before the threshold is met

“Spend {{amount}} more to unlock free shipping!”

In progress message

As customers add items

“You’re {{amount}} away from free shipping.”

Threshold reached message

Once the goal is reached

“You’ve unlocked {{discount}} off shipping!”

Tip:
Use variables like {{amount}} and {{discount}} to personalize messages dynamically.

  1. Under Content, customize your messages:

  • Initial message — shown before the discount starts applying.

  • In progress message — shown when the customer is getting closer.

  • Threshold reached message — shown when the goal is reached.

Step 4: Adjust the card design

  1. Open the Card styles section.

  2. Set your preferred text size, color, and background color.

  3. Adjust border color and radius to fit your theme.

  4. Use Reset to default if you want to return to the original style.

Step 5: Customize the progress bar design

  1. Open the Progress bar styles section.

  2. Choose colors for:

    • Background color (unfilled portion of the bar)

    • Foreground color (filled portion as progress increases)

  3. Adjust the border radius for rounded or sharp corners.

Step 6: Preview and test the widget

  1. Use the preview section on the right side of the dashboard to see how your messages and colors look.

  2. Add an item to your cart to confirm that the progress bar updates correctly.

  3. Make sure the text and styling look good on both desktop and mobile.

Step 7: Save and publish

  1. When you’re happy with your setup, click Save.

  2. Visit your storefront and refresh the page to check that the progress bar appears where you enabled it.

Use cases

  • Increase AOV: Encourage shoppers to add one more item to reach free or discounted shipping.

  • Highlight shipping perks: Great for BFCM, seasonal sales, or VIP promotions.

  • Create urgency: Pair it with a countdown timer to nudge faster checkouts.

  • Boost engagement: Customers enjoy real-time progress feedback—it feels like a reward.

Best practices

  • Keep your goal amount reachable (e.g., 10–20% above your current average order value).

  • Match the widget’s colors to your store theme for a natural look.

  • Always test messages on both desktop and mobile.

  • Combine with other campaign types (e.g., Buy X Get Y) for layered promotions.
